"Cultivating the seeds of peace within ourselves. In our communities and in the World."

What do you get when poets, musicians, teachers, healers and artists gather to share their ideas and passion on the subject of peace?
The Answer is: the Rico Peace Garden!

Sponsored by Peacesongs.org and supported by a grant from the Rico Center, the 2nd annual Rico Peace Garden was held on Sunday, September 11, 2005. Anthony Bogart, of Yoga West in Grand Junction, began the day with what we see becoming a Rico Peace Garden tradition: a morning meditation and yoga session. Other guests included internationally known author and healer, Christopher Beaver, Telluride acupuncturist, Josh Geetter, a return performance by award-winning poet and the world's foremost surrealist beekeeper, Jim Tipton, a community drum circle lead by Kulu Sadira, words of peace from Rico Community Church's Pastor Carol Burgeson, and a headlining appearance by san Francisco-based Aphrodesia, a 12-member Afro-funk band who tour the country in a bio-diesel bus. The community of Rico would like to thank performers and participants for another fabulous event.

Rico Women's Club   Rico Historical Society
The Masons   The Rico Elementary School
    Montezuma Land Conservancy District

If you have information or anecdotes you can send about any of these organizations, or want to tell me who I forgot, please call or email: judy@ricocolorado.org, 970-967-2203. Thanks!

Did you know that National Geographic covered Rico in its March 2001 ZipUSA article? You can view part of the article, some interesting photos, and references to other relevant articles at http://www.nationalgeographic.com/ngm/0103/feature6/index.html. National Geographic certainly captured part of Rico's personality, but there's a lot more to us than that, wouldn't you say?
