Rico Dog Ordinance Amended

In response to numerous dog complaints over the past few years, the Board of Trustees passed Ordinance No. 2002-5, amending Ordinance No. 312, “Concerning the Regulation of Dogs,” at the February 2003 Town Board meeting.

The amendment prohibits dogs at large and requires kennels to obtain a special use permit.

A dog at large is defined as “a dog that is not on the property of the Owner and is not connected to the Owner by a leash.”

A kennel is defined as the “owning, keeping, or harboring of four (4) or more dogs on any property, defined as a residential unit, a single family residential property, or a commercial premises….”

Each violation of Ordinance No. 312 is punishable by a minimum fine of $300.00 and a maximum fine of $1,000.00.

Jones Park Playground

Jones Park will be receiving a playground this summer as a result of generous donations made by area citizens and businesses. The Town of Rico and the Rico Children’s Group are raising money to match a grant made by Great Outdoors Colorado to purchase a playground.

The Town is expecting to raise the playground this July. The Town is also planning on sponsoring a barbecue upon completion of the playground in recognition of the volunteers and the individuals and businesses who helped make this project a success.

The Rico Children’s Group still needs another $1,300 for this project. Please send donations to the following group:

Meeting Times

The Town Board meets regularly the 3rd Wednesday of each month at 7:00 PM.

The Planning Commission meets regularly the last Tuesday of each month at 6:30 PM.

Rico Renaissance Proposed Master Plan Amendment Public Hearing

The Town Board will conduct a public hearing regarding the proposed Master Plan amendment submitted by Rico Renaissance on Wednesday, March 19th, 2003, at 7:00 PM.

The revised Master Plan Amendment proposal can be viewed at and at the Town Hall.

Town Board Considers Changes to the Rico Land Use Code

The Town Board will conduct public hearings on Wednesday, March 19th, 2003, and Wednesday, April 16th, 2003, regarding proposed amendments to the Rico Land Use Code.

The Rico Planning Commission accepted proposed amendments to the Rico Land Use Code at a public hearing on Tuesday, February 25th, 2003.

Rico Courthouse Restoration Project

The Town was expecting to begin the Rico Courthouse Restoration Project in January but had to postpone the project’s start date as a result of recent structural engineering studies. The roof and attic of the Rico Courthouse need much more extensive work than originally planned. The start date has been rescheduled for April.

The State Historical Fund is financing the Rico Courthouse Restoration Project.
